1/ My take on today's @Policy_Exchange report calling for a New Deal for Public Health

Generally - this is helpful, especially coming from a right of centre think tank which the government listens to.

Key recommendations are…

policyexchange.org.uk/publication/sa… 2/ ▶ Govt should publish a public health strategy – how to achieve 5 extra years of healthy life by 2035.

The target is v ambitious, particularly with COVID-19 but it's a laudable ambition and needs a strategy across the whole of govt.

1/ My personal thoughts on plans to get rid of @PHE_uk and ‘replace’ it with a ‘pandemic response agency’…as if that’s all that we need from a national public health body!

telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/… 2/ PHE employs 5,500 people doing a huge range of public health functions across the country – make no mistake, it will take years for the system to recovery from this decision. Abolishing it now is massive disruption at the worst possible time.
