This is a lovely tweet. A bit of Upright-world history for nerds: Lucky’s grandmother (Jen’s mother) was called Nel (short for Helen), and she was an up-and-coming young jazz pianist in London in the mid 30s. She played concerts for troops through much of the second world war, then married as soon as the war was over. Her husband, Albert (who Lucky never knew), gave her the eponymous upright piano as a wedding gift. Soon after, Albert and Nel migrated to Perth, West Australia, bringing the piano with them. If someone writes an article you disagree with, here is an option that a lot of you seem to have forgotten: read it, then have some thoughts about it. Then have some thoughts about your thoughts. Critically assess your intuitive reaction. Then see if there's any elements of the ... piece that you might agree with. See if it might even - god forbid - adjust your view. Just a tiny bit. Give to the writer all the credit & generosity of interpretation you would give a friend. Apply to yourself all the criticism you'd intuitively direct at an enemy. Then...

To the bloke’s saying, “You can’t blame Anning for hitting that kid, it was automatic self-defense”: What if #eggboy was #egggirl? Cos applying your logic, presumably you also think it’d be fine to hit a teenage girl & have your mates choke hold her. Yeah? What if it were #eggboy was 15? 13? 8 yrs old? If Anning’s reaction was a totally defensible unconscious response, then smacking a child would also be fine, cos your adrenaline was up. Right?
