Our penultimate session of the #EYPlayParty is a chat on Outdoor Play with @MuddyTeachers, Anne-Marie Evans, Christina Pickles, hosted by @MsNursery.
Chat has absolutely taken off, with people saying hello from China, Egypt, Thailand, USA, Pakistan, Italy, Uzbekistan...and more.
First of all, Christina stresses on the importance of the adults getting in touch with how they feel about the outdoors themselves? Insects? Heat? Dirt? She flags that teaching outside requires HUGE flexibility, since you may not even have a window to throw your plan out of!

We have started our watch party for Sound Art: Connecting contemporary art and children's play, by @louisa_penfold, Diamond Arrington, and Kaijeh Johnson.
Contemporary art and children's play may not be the most obvious combination, but the sensory stimulation, fuel for curiosity, and channel for self-expression make contemporary art a great medium to enhance children's experience of #LearningThroughPlay.

We're getting ready to head into our session on literacy and loose parts with Dr Carla Gull. Moderated by @twisha27 and supported by @shamal_merchant and @KKatPlay. Grab a quick snack and drink and come back to continue our #EYPlayPartyπ
What exactly do we mean by literacy? Although reading & writing immediately come to mind, according to @AlbertaEd, in EY it is the ability, confidence, & willingness to engage with language to acquire, construct, & communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living. #ToddlePlay

Up next, weβre diving into the wonderful world of treasure baskets with @MctavishAnni. Through this workshop, she will introduce us to not just what a treasure basket is, but also how to make our own, and how we can engage in high-quality #EYPlay. #ToddlePlay#LearningThroughPlay
Babies are born with about 100bn neurons!! Sensory, emotional, & physical activity triggers neural connections π§ making thinking & learning happen. Children's whole bodies respond to sensory stimulations, shaping their experiences & pathways #BrainDevelopment#EYPlay#EarlyYears
We have @sharrismackay and @matt_karlsen of @Playfulinquiry kicking off our session on Playing with Word and World, with people streaming in from Canada, Colombia, the Netherlands, Trinidad, Oman....phew! Let's keep this #EYPlayParty going!
Kicking off with an introduction to the story workshop and a beautiful video, it was found that materials provided a fantastic medium of expression for children. Who found it, you ask? The children themselves! Take a look at their feedback! @Playfulinquiry#EYPlayParty

Aaand it's almost time for playful mathematics with @helenjwc. If you're joining us for this session, please remember to bring along 2 pieces of square papers and a pair of scissors, so you can take part in some hands-on learning! #EYPlayParty#PlayfulMaths#PedagogyatPlay
How can we have a warm and cuddly math moment, asks @helenjwc. It seems like such an unusual idea!
It isn't particularly helpful when adults dismiss maths as something they were not good at either. But teaching mathematics is about developing mathematical thinking.

Children=water: free-flowing, adaptable, reflecting. RAIN, developed by meditation teacher Tara Brach: By Recognising what is happening, Allowing it to happen (step back and think of water), Inquire what connections are being made, and Nurturing our experiences (RAIN).
Learning and teaching are team sports, adds @BenMardell. @HSteinbring points out that being a team is not easy, and that is work to function as a team. @MaiaBassett reminds us that creating the compassion and communication we want to see with children and adults begins with us.

Our fireside chat has begun with @BenMardell@MaiaBassett@HSteinbring, moderated by @MsNursery, on the multiple roles played by EY educators. #EYPlayParty@ProjectZeroHGSE@pedagogyofplay
How can we get the most out of our different roles, and balance them in a team, @MsNursery asks. @HSteinbring stresses on communication here: including classroom adults, researchers, & children. It's also key to recognise the strengths & areas of support for everyone in the room.
