the thing you have to understand about a certain generation of contrarians is that their contrarianism was formed in like the mid 90s and no one seems to have told them that we don't live in the mid 90s anymore things were not great then -- c.f. my entire body of work from those days -- but we didn't have one party openly advocating fascism and the literal overthrow of democracy.
