It appears to me that swaths of James Somerton's video "An Overemotional Look at why JK Rowling is Bad" was lifted from my Dec 2019 article about her for Vox. vox.com/identities/201… He does not mention me, but he mentions Vox before lifting quotes from one of my main sources. i'm checking the rest of the transcript now for hints of any of my other work about JKR's transphobia.

“Trans day of vengeance” has long been a trans community meme meant to exercise frustration with the way the rest of society constantly tramples on us. It’s not a call for violence, ffs. We came up with it because visibility is a double edged sword, so some of us said “we don’t need visibility, we need vengeance.” But if you read it as trans people seeking vengeance in a violent way, do you think it might be violence we are responding to?

The governor mentions gender neutral bathrooms, which seems like a sensible compromise. But let’s say you have a set of gendered bathrooms and then a separate gender neutral space… Let’s also say that the GN bathroom is 3 minutes further away from the classrooms than the gendered bathrooms. This means a trans child misses 6 minutes more of classroom time than their cis peers when they need to use the bathroom.

I’ve frequently heard from parents who observed that their young kids exhibit gender non-conforming behavior or interests but haven’t said anything about their own gender.

I tell them that it’s normal and to make sure their kid knows they’re loved and supported. They’ll ask me if I thought their kid might be trans later and my honest answer is always “only your kid can to you that.” And then I tell the parent about the persistent, consistent, and insistent standard that a therapist would look for in evaluating for gender dysphoria.

I know of probably 300 trans women who IDed as gay men before transition who were born around the time period in question here. It’s actually incredibly common for closeted trans girls to get socialized into a cis gay identity. Even today this happens. Image The lines between these identities are often fuzzy and kids and adolescents should be allowed to work through it all and come to their own conclusions without adult dickheads like Andrew Sullivan dictating that cis gay outcomes are naturally superior to trans outcomes.

The Times positions this radical parents group as the truly sympathetic party in this piece. I would have approached this story by centering trans adults who weren’t accepted by their parents as kids and tell the story of how they navigated that at school.

One potential takeaway from tonight is that the US is a center left country with a gerrymandering problem.

If republicans are going to turn in a historically poor midterm performance now in this moment, a lot of talking heads need to re-evaluate their priors on this stuff. Notice how statewide races are mostly breaking for Dems and the only GOP pick ups are coming from micro-dissected, newly gerrymandered districts? That’s no coincidence.

In 10 years we’re going to get a wave of essays from trans adults who were trans kids who were forcibly detransitioned by the state and the devastating effect that had in their lives.
