It's truly amazing to me, that in light of the parable of the laborers i.e. (Matthew. 20:1-16) many seem to have no problem whatsoever; with the landowners freedom to choose what to pay these laborers, but blow a gasket if anyone dares to say that God; has the freedom to do 1/5 as He wills! Oh, and this is relevant to the discussion at hand. This pericope is clearly a simile, explaining to us eternal and soteriological truth.

(Matthew. 20:1) starts the pericope and simile, notice the "is like" language, and by the time you get to the last verse or 2/5

*I've seen more than a few tweets already, asking about passive aggression, in the context either of forgiveness, or how one is to deal with it properly by way of rebuke and/or guidance. Of course, in a way that is Biblical, so all of this got me thinking, and is the reason 2/13

behind this thread.**

Reading these tweets seemed to stir my own mind up concerning this topic, and immediately, one of the first things that seemed to cross my mind was, the following:

Wouldn't it be easier, and even more Biblical, to drop the loaded-umbrella term

It is very useful to either; read a primer dealing with the source material, or a trusted and balanced scholar, (not merely one that parrots your own understanding) concerning the source material before, upto, during and after the Reformation. This way you're actually 2/6
familiar, not only with what the issues are, but the arguments, and what lead up to them. A good primer for example, will contain both sides i.e. Protestant & Romanist, while at the same time not being wishy washy, and letting the reader know what side the author takes.

In response to Finney's Lectures on Theology, by Charles Grandison Finney, Charles Hodge, had some poignant things to say in response, and some pretty snarky rejoinders, I must say it's definitely worth the read. Here are a few excerpts to get you interested. *Thread* 2/7

"Our object at present, however, is not to discuss principals, but to state the general character of this work. It is eminently logical, rationalistic, reckless and confident. Conclusions at war with the common faith of Christians, are not only avowed

You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

1. I asked the Lord that I might grow In faith and love and ev'ry grace, Might more of His salvation know, And seek more earnestly His face.

2. 'Twas He who taught me thus to pray, And He, I trust, has answered prayer, But it has been in such a way As almost drove me to despair 3. I hoped that in some favored hour At once He'd answer my request And, by His love's constraining pow'r, Subdue my sins and give me rest,

4. Instead of this, He made me feel The hidden evils of my heart And let the angry pow'rs of Hell Assault my soul in ev'ry part.
