Today, criminal charges against me were dropped for spraying ketchup to protest Peter Fragiskatos' support for januside. These charges are among a sea of police repression of human rights voices, with physical brutality, arbitrary arrests, and trumped up charges like these. A 🧵 Almost a year ago, on November 15, 2023, a squad of police cars and officers arrested me - six by my count - on suspicion that I sprayed ketchup on MP Fragiskatos' office during a protest to symbolize him having blood on his hands. Spoiler alert: I done it

Credible reports are emerging LHSC will fire its CEO(s) next week and hire Altaf Stationwala. Don't recognize that name? Stationwala engaged in anti-Palestinian racism when he suspended Dr. Ben Thomson for advocating against dehumanization of Palestinians. A deep dive in this 🧵 Image I suspect that because Stationwala bungled Dr. Ben Thomson's suspension and put Mackenzie on the hook for potentially millions, that he is now trying to make an exit or is being shown the door. I agree: #FireStationwala . But LHSC?? No thanks. We've had enough CEO scandal here.

Western University's Schulich medical school is by now an active supporter of Israel's brutal atrocities in Gaza, which they refuse to condemn. Instead, they condemn and attack students standing against an obvious gen cide, including by promoting people who harm students. A 🧵 The med school and Western are capable of righteous moral outrage. 18 months before the war crimes ramped up in Gaza, they expressed shock and solidarity with Ukraine. They humanized Ukrainians' struggle against Russian occupation, showcasing them in official publications.

This is a wholly inadequate response that represents an absolute minimum effort. Breakdown of UOttawa's statement and my response. A 🧵 Why on earth was Dr. Kershin allowed to "voluntarily" recuse herself from the process. Why wasn't she immediately terminated? Is she seriously supposed to preside over the academic future of residents who are now admitted with this supposedly fair process?

Dr. Carly Kirshen is a program director for Dermatology at UOttawa. In a message responding to a CBC expose on student harassment, she asked for the list of students. We can assume she intends to use it to screen CaRMS applicants to her program. UOttawa knows and did nothing. Image Concerned doctors saw these posts and privately wrote to University of Ottawa >2 weeks ago requesting action. Their demands are simple: immediate action to stop abuse of students; accountability; transparency. The university has not yet responded or acknowledged the messages. Image

In my last thread on harassment of students, residents & learners, I mentioned Dr. Olga Shmuilovich deserved her own thread. Her posts (Irony_stop) are egregious and abundant. I organized them into categories: racism, harassment, pro-genocide, atrocity denial, and antivax. A 🧵 I got involved with Dr. Shmuilovich because she was part of a harassment campaign against a medical student even after he was cleared in a thorough investigation. But what I found looking through her timeline was deeply concerning. Image

It is no secret that students, residents, physicians, and others are being harassed for their human rights positions. The scope of this harassment is wide. I will dissect one such campaign, how it is executed, and why the template is so easy to repeat. Anatomy of a campaign. A 🧵 The first part of a harassment campaign is a group willing to create a mob and direct its energies. Journalists have reported on several such initiatives. Below is a message in one group specific to medical students seeking to target an essential part of their medical education. Image

I have been deeply mourning Dr. Hani Al-Haitham since he was killed a few days ago. I want to tell you about Hani, an incredible person and doctor. He was killed with his wife, Dr. Samira Al-Ghefari and their five children, Sherin, Thea (Tota), Sara, Samir, and Wafaa. A 🧵 Image Hani just turned 41 years old when he was killed and only a few years into his career as an emergency doctor. He boarded in 2019 and became head of Shifa's ER a few weeks before COVID hit. He met the challenge, helping reconfigure the department for the pandemic. Image

With his statement today, MP Peter Fragiskatos proved he can be more of a coward than when he refused to call for a ceasefire at all. I'm going to break down his statement, why it's so stupid, and why it is a different form of his previous support for continued genocide. A 🧵 Image Canada's UN vote yesterday is a capitulation to massive public pressure and an attempt to prevent wholesale abandonment of the Liberal party as a result of their alliance with Israel during genocide. Pulling diplomatic support for Israel is a real victory, but nowhere near enough

Eyewitness accounts surfacing from Gaza's hospitals are harrowing and disturbing. An entire generation of doctors and health care workers has been targeted in this War on Hospitals. #NotATarget . A 🧵 A painful number of my close friends and colleagues were killed by Israeli strikes. They were not just doctors, but leaders who chose to be in Gaza and build a top notch health care system.

Today, I will be arrested by police in London, Canada. The police will put me in jail indefinitely because I will not stop protesting against MP Peter Fragiskatos, who refuses to call for a ceasefire against the civilians in Gaza. What's happening. What you can do. A 🧵 The police came to my house to arrest me while I was overseas doing humanitarian relief work. While I don't know the exact charge, it appears to be related to this: cbc.ca/news/canada/lo…

We are witnessing in real time and from multiple angles the shelling, bombing and destruction of Gaza's hospitals with the tandem massacre of health care workers, patients and refugees, all of whom thought hospitals were sanctuaries. #NotATarget A 🧵 Israel continues to tell the same lies they've told for two decades to justify these massacres. Never with evidence. Never proven. Multiple international and local organizations have refuted and debunked these lies.

Of course the accusations against Al-Shifa are false. Their purpose is not to put forward credible evidence, but to create a justification for bombing hospitals in Gaza and sowing doubt in the humanity of Palestinians. #NotATarget A 🧵 These accusations are not new. They were made during the 2008/09 war, the 2012 war, and the 2014 war, the latter two of which I was in Gaza for. There has never been any evidence put forward. It's been 15 years. Where's the evidence?

The tragedy at Al Ahli Baptist Hospital is compounded by callous propaganda, dehumanization and gaslighting. More about this story, how I was gaslighted about my own shooting by Israelis and why Israel must stop attacking health care workers and hospitals. #NotATarget A 🧵 The facts as we know them right now are that 471 people were killed in Al Ahli and 314 were injured. 28 patients are in critical condition. These stats will likely shift a bit, which is normal in these situations.

Over the past days, harassment, and attacks on advocates for Palestinian human rights are up. This extends Israel's scorched earth policy in Gaza to all who seek basic rights and justice. How @BenNephrology got suspended, how to help, what to do if you get hit. #NotATarget A 🧵 Dr. Ben Thomson was suspended by @MackenzieHealth over the weekend for his human rights advocacy. Ben is a distinguished academic and physician, doing a masters in humanitarian health. His projects focus on improving capacity in low resource settings such as Uganda and Gaza / WB.

I want to tell you a little story about why you should turn your back on the @NDP right now. Because @theJagmeetSingh , @MaritStiles , and the parties they run have turned their backs on us. A 🧵 Literally one day before the latest war began, I had a conversation with the federal NDP in which I was invited to run for the riding in which I live. This is the same conversation I'm sure @SarahJama_ had when she was invited to run for her riding as MPP.
