Co-founder/CTO twice. In my heart I'll always be a webdev. Almost died twice (twice-ruptured brain aneurysm and adrenal adenoma). She/her.

I've been thinking a lot about this DeSantis Martha's Vineyard thing, and finally realized why I'm so viscerally scared by it. He put people on the modern day equivalent of cattle cars by falsely promising them work. His buddies at DHS falsified the records so that these LEGAL asylees could not be traced. That is a little TOO CLOSE for comfort to what the Nazis did. I wouldn't be surprised if someone told the asylees that work would set them free! We are not that far from the unimaginable.

If there's a value that Conservative men claim to value over all others, it's unemotional objectivity without regard to self-interest. Seriously, look how many of their arguments are couched as "This is truth" rather than "This benefits me" -- although it MYSTERIOUSLY always does seem to benefit them personally, but that's another story. Yet this 1/6 testimony seems to be a string of Conservative men who basically either kept their secrets so they could benefit financially (writing a book, getting another job), and women who are risking more or less

Today I want to talk about my favorite topic: IP law. I'm having some work done on a side-project by contractors who have pretty low hour-caps -- and each of them has expressed concerns about the standard "we own your IP unless you list it on Exhibit A" language that Silicon Valley law firms make you put on your contracts.

This conflict falls into a useful category of public discourse for grown people: "He's right, but we're not wrong". Each side in this dispute was easily able to come up with nightmare scenarios where we could be super screwed if

Hey tweeps, I decided to do a long thread about heart failure because there are SOOOO many misconceptions about it. If you read to the end I'll have a couple of asks for you!

OK so first off: heart FAILURE is not what we normally think of as heart DISEASE -- which would be coronary artery disease. Heart failure just means that your heart can't move the blood around efficiently. In my case this has zero to do with fat building up inside my arteries, so telling me to not eat bacon or what have you is not gonna be helpful whatsoever.

Everyone who is waiting for Silicon Valley to be "disrupted" by some mid-population state needs to think a little harder about the INFRASTRUCTURE of startups.

1) Look at the education statistics, esp for high-performing kids. Kids tend to perform up to their social expectations. 2) Look at the alumni networks for the universities in that area. How many founders of tech companies are in there? Yes there is selection bias up the wazoo that helps Stanford kids here... but it's hard as hell to spin up a helpful network from a cold start.

Hey, people who moved to California since the last big earthquake (30 years ago in the Bay Area)! Here's a good thread on earthquake preparedness, esp for vegetarians! I hosted a disaster preparedness class for my block here in @CityofSunnyvale -- I think the city or @SunnyvaleDPS sponsors a big program? -- and I want to add a couple things I learned.
