One of the more curious aspects of Indo-Aryan history is the case of the Y-DNA lineage R-Z93>Z94>Y3>Y2>Y27>L657.

While this is overwhelmingly dominant among R1a lineages in India outside NW, it is very rare in modern Steppe pops and aDNA

(1/7) On the other hand, the R-Z93>Z94>Z2124 lineage is ubiquitous in aDNA (including the Sintashta). Its also common in modern Steppe pops and NW-India.

This paradox merits more attention.

More importantly, does this disprove the theory of Steppe origins of Indo-Aryans ?

Exploring further with admixture dating:

1) Using WEHG instead of Steppe_MLBA to date admixture of Indo-Iranians and IVC pops in Swat samples

Very similar date of 1613 BC instead of 1671 BC using Steppe_MLBA !

(1/6) ImageImage Earlier date with Steppe_MLBA is likely due to earlier admixture of IVC with Anatolia_N from BMAC or West Asia.

Either way, it was very marginal compared to the Anatolia_N received from Steppe_MLBA.

The male-biased migrations of Indo-Europeans across Eurasia during the Bronze Age is well known.

But this 2021 paper explores possible Steppe female migrations into India through mtDNA analysis.

A short thread of my takeaways (as a layman):

nature.com/articles/s4143… 1) Haplogroups H2a1a,J1b1a1,U4a1 and W3a1 are the genetic legacy of the Indo-Iranian migration into India.

For instance, U4a1 and W3a1 are present in BA Yamnaya, IA Swat valley as well as in modern populations in E-Europe, C-Asia and India and Thailand. (see A in following pic)

FAQ thread on the Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT) and assimilating it into the Hindu narrative.

My understanding derived from scholars such as @blog_supplement @agnimaan @RangaTheDude @GhorAngirasa @shrikanth_krish @razibkhan @IndianHistory0

Will keep adding Qs over time Q1) What is the AIT ?
