today i learned:
so y'know how Arashi were like, if miso soup is referred to as 'o-miso shiru', then why isn't 'o-miso ramen' a thing?
[yeah no, 'o-miso ramen' is not used outside of the Arashi LINE group]
to answer that, we need to get into the whole 'o-' prefix thing.

it's called bikago (美化語, lit. 'beautifying words'), i.e. making words more respectful by prefixing 御 ('o'/'go') to nouns (& some verbs).
you've encountered this in words like okaasan, ocha, onigiri, gomen, gohan etc. - makes sense for addressing ppl, but why food/drink?

Arata-san (who previously did an analysis of Ohno’s dancing in the Turning Up choreography vid) breaks down Ohno’s dancing in the Netflix documentary this time!
He's reviewing ep.3 in his video, but he says that he's been watching the Voyage documentary since ep.1. As someone who also choreographs, he's always curious how other people create their stage perfs and he's always wondered how 'top of the top' pros like Arashi do it.
