Last fall, I stumbled across a lawsuit that, with interviews, revealed one insurers’ playbook of secret lists, special deals and lowball payments. 👇 In September, a Louisiana jury awarded $421M to a hospital specializing in breast restorations for women with cancer-related mastectomies. In 2018, Robert “Skeeter” Salim found out he had cancer under his tongue. His insurance wouldn’t approve payment for the proton therapy his doctor recommended. But Blue Cross didn’t know who Salim was. @propublica 🧵 Salim had been named one of the top trial lawyers in the country. From his office in tiny Natchitoches, LA, he’d taken on big pharma companies and won hundreds of millions of dollars of judgements.

1/10 I have the utmost respect for our military. I’ve ridden with incredibly self-possessed young soldiers under fire and talked with four stars in the Pentagon with an unsurpassed loyalty to this country’s national security needs. 2/10 But I’d be remiss to fail to note the troubling series of stories in recent weeks which have documented high ranking military leaders dodging accountability and concealing truth while hammering the rank and file.
