The latest Public Health Ontario Covid-19 Wastewater surveillance report is quite alarming. Off-the-charts in Central East, Central West, and South West, and near/over last winter's peaks everywhere else besides North East. publichealthontario.ca/en/Data-and-An…
Image Where is @TOPublicHealth, @epdevilla in letting people know what the situation is? Where is @SylviaJonesMPP? Where is Dr. Kieran Moore? Even a reminder to ventilate any gatherings would be helpful at this point....

Why are Ontario's medical officers of health currently, in the face of another fall Covid wave, unwilling to use s.22 orders, for example to compel (rather than simply recommend) masking in schools and other essential services?

Afraid of losing their jobs? MOH jobs have salaries in the $300k range, but these highly qualified MD administrators should have no problem finding other work. Barring extreme personal situations (mob debts, drug problems, 12 kids) they can deal with temporary unemployment. 2/7

Dear @tdsb, @TDSBDirector ; I know the province has screwed you over. But we're all in this together, and here are some immediate, low-cost steps within your power to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in schools. Given high community spread in Toronto, speed is of the essence. /1 First, pls accept the premise that Covid-19 is spread significantly by aerosols, small fluid droplets that float in the air like smoke. While transmission by fomites (particles on surfaces you touch) is possible, this has not been shown to be the dominant mode of spread. /2

ON school COVID testing update, Sep 8, plague year 1. Lecce: on-site testing if request by PHU, asymptomc testing of high school sutdents. Yaffe: believes there are plans to increase capacity, but we don't need it. Discussions re asymptomatic testing ongoing. #unsafeseptember 1/ Dissonance anyone? How could Yaffe think there's no need for extra capacity with fall coming and standing advice to get tested with any symptom? (Ford sez test!) Why doesn't she know if it's being increased? Lecce's asymptomatic testing plan clearly not firmed up in her view. 2/

Twice weekly saliva testing at U Illinois, which does 10,000 tests/day. IL does 2x tests per cap as ON (50k/day). We could do 2x weekly pooled tests of every classroom in the province with an extra 25k tests/day (2.2 million T+S * 0.8 attend /20 per class/3.5 d) @BogochIsaac @CPHO_Canada @PublicHealthON @PattyHajdu @fordnation @Sflecce @celliottability @TOPublicHealth

Recent evidence from summer camps in Canada and the US have suggested that COVID-19 can spread easily among children. Studies of viral RNA load in children reinforce this presumption.
