Thread for April 14, 2024 on the fight between Iran and Israel.

Below is an IAF post showing 🇮🇱 F-15Is including aairframes 263 and 246 of 69 Squadron "Hammers" out of Hatzerim AB.

1/ As it stands, Biden has made clear any "offensive" actions against Iran would not involve the US, severally limiting Israel's potential response.

Thread for Day 2 of war between Hamas and Israel.

So far:

- Israel: 290 dead, 1500+ injured, unknown number of captives held in Gaza, though number is perhaps in the hundreds. Numbers expected to climb as areas unreachable.

- Gaza: 232 dead, 1697 injured

1/ IDF tanks are on the move south toward the Gaza border for a likely ground war in Gaza while Hamas has been sending armed groups to key areas in preparation against any Israeli invasion.

This fight has no signs of ending anytime soon.

As Moscow comes under yet another suspected Ukrainian drone attack, several commercial aircraft routed to Vnukovo were temporarily put in hold patterns (~20 minutes). Some traffic seems to be allowed to continue now.

Image Russian telegram seems to think it wasn't all friendly. And I'm leaning towards agree. Something may have changed. Question is, if so, then what?

Thread. Sudan clashes.

There is a crazy amount of footage coming out of Khartoum showing fighter jets across the sky, continuous gun battles and explosions across the capital as the Sudanese Army fights with the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

1/ RSF forces claim they have captured Marawi airfield (video supports claim). RSF also claim airport at al-Abiad and the main airport of Khartoum, which has suspended all flights.

Seeing a lot of reports of 🇷🇺 cruise missile launches from bombers and ships in the Black Sea. Reports of some shoot downs, but explosions heard in Odessa and Mykolaiv. Appears to be an AD saturation attack. Developing. Between Russian missile-carrying warships lingering off the coast for a few days now and bombers being tracked via '"bear net" frequency intercepts, these were rather highly expected cruise missile attacks.

I started doing flight tracking - like many who have followed since - as a hobby.

I thought it was amazing the 1st time I was able to see the flights my family was on in real-time, or the 1st time I was able to see a military jet in real life from data I got from an app.

It's now more than a hobby, but a passion.

It became clear that patterns would emerge from planes that interested me: I make regular posts, for instance, about E-6B TACAMO callsigns that are uniquely generated. Patterns become tomorrow's headlines. Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine.

Belarussian media has reported that Belarus 🇧🇾 Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has died "suddenly" at the age of 64.

Trips over the past month to 🇮🇷 Tehran, Iran, 🇮🇳 Delhi, India and the CSTO conference in 🇦🇲 Armenia (2 days ago) showed him in relatively good health. Pic from West Asia News Agency via Reuters Successor-apparent 🇧🇾 1st Deputy FM Sergei Aleinik has been meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Belarus in 🇦🇪 Abu Dhabi.

His plane - CRJ-200 EW-301PJ #510055 - arrived in the UAE capital 83 hours ago and apparently hasn't left yet.
