For 4 years, @katyrshields and I researched the first True-Crime story in sustainability. Then we made a podcast, Part 1 out now:

'Tipping Point: The True Story of "The Limits to Growth"' open.spotify.com/episode/3XvtYo…

But what was this major PR/science conflict of the 70s about? 🧵 Image 2. We've unearthed rare original audio from the meetings, boardrooms, and news media back in 1972-1974, placing you right in the middle of the action. You'll witness the research and PR drama as it unfolded - and how chances were missed to avoid today's pollution crises.

Attempts at consensus at climate COPs keep failing - due to the big fossil "dealers" US, CN, RU, SA.

How do we coordinate enough countries... to then pressure the big players to keep fossil fuels in the ground, realistically? 🧵 COPs aren't working because they're built wrong.

@Hermann_Ott diagnosed it: the COP process emulates the consensus negotiation logic of nuclear disarmament.

In those, actors could pressure/threaten others, and make valuable offers. See my next tweet ⬇

Klingt weniger professionell!

ImageImageImage

THREAD: I won the thing! My 2018/19 final thesis on communications strategy in the public interest, in collab with @ClubOfRome, where I analysed (un)successful campaigns and pulled together useful psychology & strategy, just won the @HSNiederrhein Senate Prize in Innovation. Big thanks for inspiration, and for their output I referenced on env., econ, and communication, to @Wupperinst @hanshaake @UweSchneidewind @ProfTimJackson @jasonhickel @jrockstrom @KateRaworth @campaignstrat @bjfogg (I recommend following) and esp.
