Many teachers use ‘cold calling’ as a way to hear from students who don’t speak up voluntarily in class. And as referenced by @AceThatTest, there is evidence that cold calling could increase girls’ participation in the classroom. Yet we know from our oracy surveys, completed by over 12k students annually, that some feel uncomfortable speaking in front of the class when cold called upon🧵

🌿In Voice 21 Oracy Schools we encourage teachers to “value every voice” - this means creating a culture where all students feel comfortable and confident to speak up in class, whether that’s answering a teacher’s question or speaking with their peers as part of a small group.
