Many teachers use ‘cold calling’ as a way to hear from students who don’t speak up voluntarily in class. And as referenced by @AceThatTest, there is evidence that cold calling could increase girls’ participation in the classroom. Yet we know from our oracy surveys, completed by over 12k students annually, that some feel uncomfortable speaking in front of the class when cold called upon🧵
