American life is brutal because you have to be above average to be average. You have to be succesful just to get by. Everywhere else you just have to be normal and you're set: you'll have a job, house, wife, etc. In America to get that you basically need to go ubermensch.
I go on runs in the Thai countryside and pass by all these little single-room houses in the countryside. Mostly tenant farmers making about 500$ a month. They all seem happy, married, they're doing side hustles, their houses are well-insulated and have AC, and they can afford everything because their country doesn't hate them so they don't let foreigners do stuff like real estate speculation. Their economic equivalent in the US, someone making 25-30K USD, is hopelessly single, addicted to schizophrenia-inducing 95% dab pen THC, and paying 450$ rent to share an apartment with five other dudes who are in exactly the same situation.

Blevins ends up getting raped, like The Kid. Britt seems to imply she was raped as a child. Big parts of Blood Meridian and Borders seem to be him coping with this through a genderswapped version of her.
This may be a little reductive but as of tomorrow it’s going to be one of the most popular readings of Blood Meridian.
