1/1 So Vanity Fair wrote abt a recent debate held in LA & sponsored by ⁦@bariweiss⁩ and ⁦@TheFP⁩ . It made fun of the women there, including my wife, using tired sexist language & tropes. It also dissed them as looking like "podcast listeners," whatever that means Image 2/2 This is what "podcast listeners" look like, apparently -- at least in my wife's case

1. Welcome to this week's discussion of the short story The Prussian Officer by DH Lawrence. Leave comments here, as many as you'd like. This is a low-tech effort. I'll kick off the conversation with a few questions and drop in now and then during the week. Anything goes. 2. What's the story about? Jealousy? Sadism? Sexual frustration? Youth and age?

Did your thoughts on this change as it went on?

Go see the vast solar farms in Nevada, for instance, which are new yet already defunct, like great science-fiction mirrored fields in the desert. Wind farms? Only so-so, with many problems One goal we always hear about is a network of long-distance high-speed passenger trains. Not much progress there. The tech has long existed. Is there demand for them? Enough demand? Enough to beat air travel? And is casual inter-regional travel even agreed to be a good thing now?
