This is a thread about the intersection of abortion politics and sports. Specifically, about abortion politics and the @SFGiants. The Giants principal owner is Charles Johnson, a right wing billionaire who funds the most racist, homophobic & sexist political candidates. The executives who run the Giants try to distance the team from Johnson's political contributions and as sports teams go, the @SFGiants does a decent job of reflecting and supporting community values of equity, inclusion, anti-racism, gay rights, etc. BUT .....

Do not be shocked. We told you to focus on the Supreme Court in voting. We begged you to focus on the Supreme Court. But so many didn't listen. So many didn't vote. The end of Roe is the beginning of the Christian patriarchal interpretation of the Constitution and federal law. After abortion, they'll take away gay marriage, birth control, sexual privacy, separation of church and state.

I used to write a LOT about the economics of baseball, starting FanGraphs and then at Sports on Earth, Vice Sports, even the New Yorker. I am not up on the latest between MLBPA and MLB (follow @EugeneFreedman & @craigcalcaterra for that), but I do have some thoughts 1/ Pre-COVID, baseball was not particularly popular among 18-24 yrs old or 30-44 yr olds. MLB knows this & focused on "pace of play" initiatives bc they've decided the problem is that games are too long. Classic Manfred technocratic approach. 2/
