The Dog, the Quad and the Wild Wild Land
Rural Depopulation & Land Use Change in Scotland a thread provoked by "The Last Keeper" a film by @tomopre
Preface
I'm not a rural worker. But my dad was, he was a shepherd who worked with a dog & lost his job to land use change

I was at the Scottish Game Fair last weekend and waiting to hear the excellent @howemill talk about regenerative agriculture I fell into conversation with the maker of "The Last Keeper" a film about land use conflict and the threat to rural ways of life in Scotland. 2/20

This is Auchensoul hill. It stands above the village where I live. It is a case study in the confusion and failure that is dogging Scottish Land Policy and which was highlighted today by the Scottish land Commission. 1/14
Until recently Auchensoul fell was owned by one of the big local land owning families. The family in question were the Fergusons of Kilkerran. They actually owned the land way back in the medieval era. 2/14 freepages.rootsweb.com/~alanmilliken/…

I want to explain why I hate this type of thing so much. 1/10

It's not the sheer lazy inaccuracy of it (though that really doesn't help). Skye is not in the Western Isles. Culturally, historically even geologically Skye and the Western isles are quite distinct. 2/10

I wrote this story about Woodcock and it is causing some controversy. So I want to explain why I wrote it and why I wrote it the way I did. A thread 1/6

The Story is about Woodcock. They are a controversial quarry at the moment largely due to a big push to have the season shortened. So in that context an article which could be read as encouraging people to get stuck in this Winter is pretty dumb right? 2/6
