It was the summer of ’18. Matkasur was ruling the Tadoba Core and Pandhar Pauni was his castle. I had not sighted him before & this time the agenda was only & only to photograph King Matka. 1/n
#wildlifephotography Tadoba was booming with Tiger sightings and the saying “ Tadoba never disappoints” or “Tiger sightings in Tadoba are guaranteed” had started making rounds in the circles of Wild Life. I had no intentions of finding or photographing other Tigers. 2/n

'Know your camera' as well as you know the capabilities of your fingers. The camera is an extension of yourself & has to do what your mind wants it to do. It has to react fast. Very fast! Action packed moments in the wild last just for a few seconds.

This was in Kanha 4 years back. I was staying in the house of my guide as we have that kind of a bond.
We went for the afternoon attempt and came back with some amazing sightings of Barasingha and a female Tigress. Happy!
1/n I decided to take a stroll. While my buddy went in for a nap, I decided to step out for a stroll. It was winter and nice cool breeze was combing my hair.
I walked and walked and didnt realise I had gone too far. Sun was setting fast & I took a quick turn.

It was 1230 am. Lights were off but both me & my room partner were awake. I had put on my earphones but realised he was saying something. I removed a ear piece & asked Kya Hua? So ja kal jaldi uthna hai.
1/n No answer. But I could see he was upright. I put on the mobile light on him and he was sh!t scared. I said bhai kya hua? He said- "TIGER! I smiled and said relax yar. Dikh jayega kal. koi sapna dekha kya?"
He said "Nahi. Aawaz suni."

#Thread An incident from last year.

I was at Kanha and had come back to my lodge after the morning attempt (I call a safari an attempt).
I was sitting outside basking in the sun, having coffee and transferring the work to my laptop and was reviewing some good shots.

1/n I could sense someone walking towards me but I usually ignore as most people want to touch my camera. A lady approached and said "Appko Dikha kya?" I said "Kya"? I very well knew what she was referring to- Obviously Tiger!
Her reply was borderline rude.

So here to goes- an analogy of what I do with #KashmirFiles - A #thread

I spend approx 5 lacs on my camera equipment and spend approx 2 lacs on travel etc to enter the jungles and try to track different Tigers across India in very difficult circumstances.

1/n Seldom do I sight the Tiger but when I do, I have that split second to ensure I get a good shot which people would like.

Then I go back and post process it but sometimes its not good enough. So I keep trying..

I go to another jungle and the story continues.

I went to a nearby Udupi yesterday for my daily dose of Idli. This time a colleague came along..

On the opposite table a middle class family of father, mother and son were having lunch and visibly very happy. I observed they were having palak paneer and naan. I particularly enjoyed watching the 10 yo’s happy face. He must have waited for this day.
It took me back to my childhood. My father used to take us out just like that in small places where he could afford once a month & we used to wait for it to eat out specially tandoori roti.

A #thread on #wildlifephotography for beginners was pending for long. So finally I penned it down.

In the photos are Choti Tara & her two cubs who took away a camera which had accidentally slipped out off the jeep from a photographer.

Do read how it transpired-
1/10 I was the first to enter the jungle and my driver had the intel of the location of a Tigress and cubs. He told me that photos wont be great as she has a collar, but he said cubs are amazing and very active.

I was a but disappointed as cubs very rarely come out in the open.

Below is a real life example of me doing mobile photography. Even though I am wildlife photographer, I find that I use my phone more often than not to capture precious everyday moments. After all, they say that the best camera is the one which is available when at the moment of truth.

Exposure Triangle.

Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO make up the three sides of the exposure triangle. They work together to produce a photo that is properly exposed. If one variable changes, at least one of the others must also change to maintain the correct exposure. Now, understanding what a stop is, is key to understanding the exposure triangle. A stop refers to the doubling or halving of the amount of light that makes up an exposure.

1/n I was spending 12 hours straight from dawn to dusk in the jungles of Ranthambore in Oct-18’. It was the third and the final day of my expedition. Although I did sight a few tigers in those 36 long hours, this moment is etched in my memory for a lifetime.
