Stopping their use would put cyclists' lives at risk, including disabled cyclists who use bikes as mobility aids.

Our climate is changing. We must cut CO2 emissions, but it's also vital we adapt our city to better cope with extreme weather.
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) cut the risk of flooding by slowing & reducing the flow of rainwater into drains & sewers.

In London, we're building SuDS into our transport schemes to reduce local flooding - like this example at Old Street.
The unused subway spaces were converted and soakaway chambers installed.

I’ll be taking a break from Twitter for the next few weeks for the pre-election period, but prompted by an excellent @KuperSimon article in the @FT about the future of cities, I wanted sign off with a few reflections from a London perspective: (1/11)

ICYMI THREAD: a round-up of new plans that we’ve published over the last couple of weeks. @TfL & @MayorofLondon are working hard to give people the option of walking & cycling for essential journeys, freeing up precious space on public transport & our roads for those who can't.
First up, scheme that fills the 1km gap along Tooley St between C4 at Tower Bridge Rd & the new London Bridge cycle lanes. Includes a new pedestrian space at the “Tooley St Triangle” where a superfluous slip road will be closed to cars. More details here: consultations.tfl.gov.uk/general/3269f8…
