In 2019, Nigeria spent a whopping N23 trillion (naira) on food alone! N23 Trillion. Here is a breakdown of the type of food Nigerians purchased and how much was spent on each type.

From a business angle, I see opportunities and wealth looking at these NBS data.

Thread 👇 On Non-Food items, Nigeria spent N17.4 Trillion in 2019. In this category, Nigeria spent the most on Transport - N2.6 trillion, followed by health - N2.5 trillion and Education - N2.4 trillion. N2.1 trillion was spent on rent and N428 billion on Entertainment.

Do you know that 32% of Nigerian households (HHs) faced food shortages within the last 12 months of the NGHS?

This is part of findings from the National General Household Survey (NGHS) recently released in Dec 2019 by @nigerianstat.

Thread. August was the month where food shortage was most experienced (40% of Households) & the lowest was February (13% of HHs).

By region, Households in South South experienced food shortage the most- 43% of HHs; SE- 42.8%; NE- 31%; SW- 31%; NW- 26% and NC- 17%.
