tl;dr of chess thread:
- venti & zhongli's gnosis = white queen & rook pieces
- fatui is facing the board from white's POV
- signora may be the black pawn that was captured by the white knight (the crystalfly!), meaning...
- the white knight might be raiden & the electro gnosis. because raiden is the one who eliminated signora, even though the traveler won that duel.

fatui are most likely black pieces, celestia are white.

also, the message: "on this chessboard, checkmate is not where the game ends." ie., signora's death was not in vain

notes:
- queen underlined in green is venti's gnosis. rook underlined in gold is zhongli's gnosis. the move shown on this board is the knight, previously on E4, capturing the pawn on C2.

the knight is protected by zhongli's rook... and the enemy queen is in jeopardy (the night can take it unless it moves).

headcanon time:
the book "heart of clear springs" describes the differences between fairies & humans, stating that fairies are "tender, sensitive beings beyond the ken of humans." fairies are incredibly empathetic. they can read body language, and, at many times, may understand people's feelings better than humans know their own feelings.

in the book, this deep empathy causes the spring fairy to grow afraid of commitment in fear of parting with the boy.
