We have detected avian H3N8 viruses in poultry. These viruses are genetically similar to recent human H3N8 cases in China. /1

Does vaccination affect intra-host SARS-CoV-2 diversity? Do different variants have different abilities to explore sequence space?

Here is our @HKU_SPH @GuHaogao @ahmedaquadeer PREPRINT to answer these questions:
researchsquare.com/article/rs-133… To address these, we deep sequenced samples from vaccinated or unvaccinated COVID-19 patients infected by different variants (VOCs vs non-VOCs).

For the effect of vaccination, we found:
1. The nucleotide diversity between vaccinated and unvaccinated are similar.

Our report of SARS-CoV-2 in pet hamsters in published by #Lancet now.

Key findings:
1. The diversity of delta virus in hamsters is more diverse than expected. It might circulate in hamsters for a few months. /1 2. Multiple human clusters were found (blue arrows)suggesting that there were more than one hamsters to human transmission in this outbreak.
3. The hamster virus is still transmissible between humans. /2
