What are xAssets?

A xAsset is an asset that represents the value of an asset from a different platform.

Via smart contract, the original asset is 'wrapped' into a digital vault and a new asset gets minted 1:1 on the other platform.

Why?

Wrapping assets enables non-native assets to be used on any chain.

Different blockchains offer different functionality, and usually, they can’t talk to each other.

Solana doesn’t know what’s happening on Fantom & vice versa.

Here's a breakdown of the differences: 2/ Before we start, think of blockchains as cities, and cross chain bridges as a human cloning device.

Here is the tl;dr 🧵

1/ On Feb 2, 2022, a signature verification vulnerability in the Wormhole network allowed an attacker to forge a message from the Wormhole guardians to mint 120k Wormhole-wrapped Ether. The attacker then bridged 93,750 of these tokens to Ethereum and withdrew the unwrapped ETH.

2/

‼️ The wormhole network is down for maintenance as we look into a potential exploit.
