"A bunch of broadly satirical upper-class jerks who are parasitic about this one rich guy are going to get shown up by a WOC who seems to be a supporting character but then becomes the surprise protagonist of the movie, and also the biggest jerk is the killer." I liked both "Knives Out" movies but "Glass Onion" is a little like...too close to the first one. RJ basically has a blank check with these.

I feel like making Anakin a little kid in "Phantom Menace" really made a lot of stuff needlessly weird and backed them into a corner. Suddenly you have one fewer movie where Anakin gets to be "a good friend, the best pilot in the galaxy" etc, and the romance is just...real weird on both sides...

Several people saying Ds should have vetted Mesha Mainor better, so I wanted to see her endorsements etc..in a few minutes of Googling I cannot find any coverage of her primary at all, which was only in 2020. Did she just have some name rec from this Atlanta city council run? Like I probably just don't know where to look, you'd think an open safe-seat state legislative primary in a big city would get some coverage from someone.

Charitably, it's as a (dubious) proxy for the larger group of "Hispanic voters/Hispanic Texas voters". Uncharitably it's because Squares On Map Have Color. I know it's not a county map, but that area does more or less have like literally the only 90%+ Hispanic counties in America (outside Puerto Rico).

Was it a (named) trope in musical theater from before that? I'm trying to remember my @Sideways440... The idea was that the opening song of a musical explains the setting, introduces the ensemble, etc, and then the SECOND song is the "I want" fleshing out the protagonist.

This happens every time. IIRC one account went from saying mixed-positive things about "La La Land" to calling it a "white supremacist movie". People have legit different opinions but there's also always like, one other layer of snobbery you can apply no matter what. This is why there's a "Spoken Word" Grammy category that's largely obsolete. Well not this exact record but this kind of thing. It's sort of like how there's "Best Animated Short" because there used to be a Daffy Duck cartoon before every movie and now it's mostly for weird art festivals. I 100% support this.

Feel like the only way to perform "Naatu Naatu" in the spirit of the movie is to have it interrupt a lame performance of one of the other songs. (Lady Gaga might actually be down with this.) It's pretty funny how many mansions in movies and shows are actually like official buildings. IDK if there aren't enough actual mansions in the world or if they don't let anyone film there.

Started watching "White Lotus" S2 because I assumed it would require very little of me, accurately. A lot of people that I respect think this "White Lotus" writing is good and there's a lid for every pot but IDGI. Characters are very thin. Dialogue is very literal (I like to play "wait for them to add one more line saying the subtext out loud"). Every scene is very long.
