1/n Neither the word "Varna" in Sanskrit, nor the words for four varnas have any Sanskrit root that even remotely refers to janma or birth, unlike jati.

The Sanskrit root word for varna gives meanings like "to cover, to choose, to describe, to classify" etc. 2/n When Brahmin, Kshatriya etc are words with particular meanings, how can they be dissociated with them and be made birth-based?

If a blind man is named nayan-sukh, will he start seeing?

Leftists who say no such thing as merit& all success is exp of privilege: what's stopping you from giving up yours?

If UC Hindus are source of all of India's problems, why don't you - an UC - step aside for less privileged?

Or self-crapping somehow makes your privilege vanish? There are left intellectuals who give sermons on how Indian middle class is the worst.

Really? Then why are you sending your kid to the costliest school of India?

Couldn't you send him to, say, a normal school, and teach 10 other children with the same money?

And? Finish the argument please.

Did Qasim slaughter a cow in temple and soiled the idols with blood inspired by "ancient Indians"?

Did Durrani fill Golden Temple's sacred pool with the blood of slaughtered cows inspired by "ancient Indians"? Did Firoz Shah Tughlaq get bags full of cow’s flesh tied round the necks of Brahmins and have them paraded inspired by "ancient Indians"?

Corpse of Guru Arjan Dev was wrapped in cow-skin to cause special offence to the Sikhs inspired by "ancient Indians"?

Leftists, believe what you want to believe but don't do the "patriotic" "spine" "dissent" virtue-signalling dance.

One party got full majority for the first time 70 years after independence, and jibes against it is your grand resistance to fascism. Give me a break. What dissent? What speaking truth to power?

You write curriculum, you teach in uni, you get all the big awards, your NGOs get funds from global capitalists like Soros.

Indian taxpayer feeds you till death and you get to act offended if asked for a resume.

I remember asking my mother when I was young - If there is God, why should I study. If praying works, then I will pray, and I should get good marks.

She told me story of a Krishna-bhakta that I still remember. I am not good at telling stories but here it goes:

A sanyasi, on the marg of bhakti-yoga, lived alone in a hut. With time he got old and weak. The time of death was near.

One day, he got terrible diarrhoea.

People ask me, what was the hardest part in leaving the
Left.

Many things - friends were lost, I was called names.

Those, for whom I was a strong independent woman, were suddenly calling me gullible, foolish

But I was prepared for this.

The hard part really was - giving up the comfort.

As a leftist in India, you find your views represented abundantly.

Something happens. It bothers you.

Then you open EPW, The Hindu, or any other 'quality' source- so many scholars giving your views a voice. Very empowering.
