In some ways John was a highly complex person, but, in others, he was a person who retained his innocence. 1 As a child of Asia, as a citizen of the global village, and as a woman of the species, I am concerned for the welfare of our planet. 2 I was in Tokyo during the Second World War. In the middle of the night, we were woken up to go down into the shelter while the B29s firebombed our city. It was frightening to see fire burning down the houses around us.
