Big announcement from my uni today - the 6 engineering schools will revert to their own faculty status, after the failed experiment of combining them all under the "Faculty of Engineering (FE)".

This is a 🧵 on what transpired. The FE was part UTM's Synergy 4.0 masterplan in 2018. It essentially means the Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computing and Biomedical Engin faculties are changed to "school" status and placed under FE, adding an extra layer of admin on top. FKE ➡️ SKE, FKM ➡️ SKM etc.

Finally managed to catch Mat Kilau on Netflix. With the counter-backlash to the backlash to the gigantic box office reception aldy, I was careful to come into the movie with low expectations. So, how was it? Read on. 🧵

-Story had good pacing, didn't drag and finished within 2 hours.
-I'm a fan of the action scenes. They were fast-paced, convincing, and, well.. cool. The rescue scene was bloody awesome. It was obvious Yayan Ruhian's DNA was imprinted all over the silat choreography.

*juga merangkumi Master/PG by Research. So what is Proposal Defense? In some univs, ia digelar sbg Mini-Viva. Ia berlangsung sekitar bulan 12-18 pengajian PhD. Tujuan utama adalah memastikan pelajar progressing well, mampu teruskan kajian, dan sudah temui that critical niche/research gap yg akan jadi novelty mereka.

Heard abt the time a group of students stood toe to toe against the University, and incredibly, won? They recouped RM millions in compensation.

This is the astonishing story of MJIIT-Voices and UTM, which I witnessed first-hand as Director of Students at MOE in 2019.
🧵 Before that, a caveat: UTM is my university, and its officers and management are my colleagues and friends. In this issue they were simply fulfilling their duties and in their view were protecting the Univ's interests. No ill will was harboured between all parties afterwards.
