mamdani prediction thread:

- he wins

- he makes cops' jobs substantially harder and emboldens gay race communist "prosecutors"/judges

- crime trends to pre-giuliani levels

- the park slope demo (anglo/secular jewish/asian tech-adjacent yuppies w/ young kids) leaves - they bring just a bit more progressive madness to long island, jersey, ct, upstate ny. they don't regret voting for mamdani or see it as causally related in any way to the city's collapse. they don't acknowledge the city's collapse. they "wanted more space." zero consequences

hi i’m here to ruin the joke because i read an Interesting Book

according to this guy, who’s best known for Seeing Like a State, the sequence here is backwards: slavery predates the barbarians and is actually the reason they exist

/1
Image scott’s story of the origins of states, slavery and barbarians, as i understand it, goes like this:

in the beginning, everyone was a paleolithic hunter gatherer. he doesn’t talk much about this stage (in this book at least)

just responded honestly to a friend saying she was afraid because of trump signs (in a place she willingly visited, which very predictably were going to have them, because she’s in an interracial couple so OMG They’re Going to Shoot Us)

i should not have done that mind you, no one said anything to them or confronted them in any way. because obviously no one

but i was expected to believe they had a justifiable fear of being shot. in a place they, again, intentionally visited as tourists

this is just something people say apparently

the plausibly deniable state-driven consolidation of the banking industry continues. as always, the mechanism is something boring and complicated that sounds beneficial

study ISO 20022 (twenty-oh-twenty-two) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_20022 first, some background. in 2010, our wise leaders passed dodd-frank, a law to reign in the greedy, reckless, dishonest wall street banks who had loosed financial mayhem on the world

maybe dodd-frank reduced the risk of another financial collapse. i doubt it, but who's to say?

when i argue that we have a right to transact freely, normals tend to regard me with horror and disgust

but why? why renounce a necessary and natural liberty? enthusiastically no less?

propaganda of course

1/several

what happens when you give people access to permissionless financial rails?

tax evasion! money laundering! drug dealing! smuggling! bribery! gambling! prostitution! ummm trade in weapons! predatory lending! extortion! terrorist financing!

right?

it’s ridiculous to say that rome is no longer a republic. to say that it has a king is just plain misinformation

👇🧵 rome has a tribune, a consul and a senate. rome does NOT have a king. declaring oneself king is illegal in rome and punishable by death

nero happens to be tribune and consul. that’s because the people and senate elected him to both positions. this ISN’T HARD people

english has a cool built-in heuristic for detecting bullshit

are most of the nouns and verbs being used latin/greek or germanic in origin?

if germanic, the things being discussed are probably real physical actions and things: tree, walk, cow, shit, fall, wood, buy, leg, go if they’re latin or greek, caution is advised: concept, information, imply, connote, equity, liberty, diversity, oppress, empower, persecute, periphery, center, idea, intellect

you've seen the meme. CBDCs subject you to the dystopian caprice of evil bureaucrats: account freezes, expiration dates, caps…

ok, says who? paranoid speculation?

i've read ~everything published by central banks on CBDCs. join me, anon, for a romp through the primary sources Image most of it is simply real. the central banks themselves admit that they're building dystopian hell-cash. they do it in anodyne think tank-speak. it's almost too boring to understand

but if you can stay sharp as you slog through the literature, it's all there. they don't hide it
