The obvious thing to say about this whole "throw a paddy" BBC stuff is that our footballers were practically forced to do a national apology tour for singing a rebel song and yet there seems to be no apology forthcoming for using this phrase, but let's move past that for a sec. I've seen so many people saying things like "I didn't know where the phrase came from" or "it doesn't mean anything bad". Ignorance is not an excuse but, frankly, it is extremely typical of folks in Britain, who think their own colonial past is a delightful anecdote for everyone.

I'll never forget trying to charge my car in Carrickmines any time from about November onwards. Despite there being absolutely tons of spaces in the underground carpark, people would *always* park in the two charging spaces when the overground carpark was full. Maddening. I also remember limping to a dance class with a low battery (because I couldn't charge in Carrickmines) only to find that the charger near there that was registering as available was actually blocked by a petrol car parked in the space also. That was a stressful day.

Oh ok we're doing "smart meters will solve the energy bill crisis" again today, are we. Cool cool cool, let's look at some plans then.

Here are two from Bord Gais, as an example. First is a standard plan, second is their standard smart meter plan. Spot the difference? ImageImage Only the night units are cheaper. Every other time of day is more expensive on a smart meter plan than on a standard plan. At peak, you'll be paying almost 10 cent more per unit! And the cheap night units are, of course, while you're asleep.
