Currently reading this book on Jane Elliott's brown eyes/blue eyes experiment, in which Elliott told her 3rd grade students with blue eyes that they were inferior and actively encouraged kids with brown eyes to bully and insult them, all in the name of anti-racism.
Apparently Elliott sought out the author to write a book about her because of how proud she is for her work in anti-racism. As the author continued to write it, however, Elliott concluded that he was going to make her look bad, so she warned him not to finish it or else she'd sue

Instead of talking about whether or not some contentious category regarding human biology is a "social construct," people should instead use "loose heuristic" or "tight heuristic." It would clear up what seems to be a great deal of confusion.
As it stands now, "social construct" is a bait and switch. When reasonable people use it to concede that something they study is indeed a "social construct," they are usually saying that the lines are drawn somewhat arbitrarily, but there are legitimate biological underpinnings.
