A thread of an unfortunate Incident in Belagavi district where a woman was assaulted and paraded naked and the politics, 5 days after the incident.
In the early hours of Monday, 13th Dec, A Woman was assaulted and tied to a pole and partially stripped after her son eloped with a girl in Belagavi district. The woman was later rescued by the police after a villager alerted them about the incident.
The girl’s engagement was scheduled on December 11.
The family of the girl was opposed to her relationship with the boy and reportedly planned to get her married to another man, leading her to flee town with her partner. When her family learned that the couple had eloped, her family members barged inside the boy’s residence and ransacked it, pelted stones and dragged the boy's mother outside the house. She was then stripped naked and paraded in the village. Both the accused and the victim's family were far relatives and from Bedara Nayaka (ST) caste. The Belagavi police arrested seven people (Basappa Rudrappa Nayak, Kempanna Raju Nayak, Raju Rudrappa Nayak, Parvati Basappa Nayak, Gangavva Basappa Weli-Valikar, Sangeeta Sadashiv Heggana Nayak, and Yallava Rudrappa Nayak) on the same day. This was reported on 13th by The Hindu, The News Minute, The New Indian Express and a few more.
