We believe reductions in mortality cannot be taken for granted with treatment scale-up. Deaths must be tracked at the subnational, and program-level in order to ensure program performance. This is especially impt as we implement @WHO advanced HIV care guidelines and #diff care
To do this, we must step up efforts to trace lost patients and document true outcomes, including causes of death, and track new indicators for death. Investments in #CRVS (Civil registration and vital statistics) and networked information systems are also on the critical path
Vital status registries are of immense importance because they record seminal events such as births and deaths, and allow for better policymaking, economic and public health decisions in terms of allocation of resources and quality improvement down to the site level @WBG_Health
The return on investment for these types of improvements may start in health services but it will ultimately provide clarity that will enable acceleration of education aims, innovative financing and insurance schemes, employment, land rights and other development goals
