I'm starting to get a better sense of what @trybible will be. It's not just going to be a 'journal' to learn more about the Bible. It's going to be a 'hack-able' Bible.

Before you get your knickers in a twist, the intent is not to change what the Bible says, but to allow you to 'write in the margins' and inline with the text to add context and notes.

Plenty of journal Bibles exist, but people rarely buy them because it's easy to just markup your own Bible. You can write in the margins, highlight and underline text, and expand on the text.

So, there will be two main features to trybible.com. One will be a 'hackable' scripture text, and the other will be a journaling section where you can write long-form notes about the text.

You'll be able to switch the hack-able mode to a read-only mode, so you can just read the text without your notes interfering. You'll also have a history of edits, and edits will be made obvious (e.g. green text for additions, red for deletions).

And finally, if your hack-edits are a bit too much, you can simply restore the text to its original form. The only downfall of this feature is that it would be translation specific, so other translations will not pick up the inline notes (just the long-form notes below).

I do plan on adding a public/private mode, where you can share your notes with others (or not), but we'll see what I can get done in the #24hrstartup livestream. The goal is to connect to a Bible API, fetch the scriptures, allow someone to edit and save their edits.

I do plan on making the app entirely free and available to anyone. If I decide to monetize in the future it will probably be through sponsorships or promoted products in newsletters.
