#Opioid medications, such as oxycodone, are highly effective in treating acute pain, but they also come with risks: ow.ly/6vn350k7ZFV
Today, clinicians and pharmacies have access to information on these controlled substance #prescriptions through the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program so they can make sure you’re safe.
Since 2015, the rate of #opioid prescription fills decreased by 28 percent and as of November 2018, 93 percent of the 4,000 top prescribers of controlled substances had registered for the PDMP.
We’re adding the PDMP into electronic #health systems to lower barriers to better care. More than 3,600 prescribers and 200 pharmacists currently have access to integrated PDMP, with more than 12,000 prescribers expected to join over the next two years.
Bottom line: Our focus has been to transform how we treat pain, and the numbers show these efforts are saving lives. Since 2006, Oregon’s prescription opioid related deaths have decreased by 45 percent.
However, more work needs to be done. To learn more about Oregon’s PDMP visit orpdmp.com/health-care-pr….
