#THREAD An online survey by @NWM_India of 456 women in Indian media released today, the 1st such survey in the wake of the #MeToo movement in the country, shows that 36% of the respondents reported having experienced sexual harassment at work #NWMIDelhi2019
60% of the respondents said that their orgs had policy to redress sexual harassment, but only a third of the respondents felt that the Internal Compaints Committee (ICC) handled complaints in a fair and unbiased manner
More than half of those sexually harassed at work didn't report it. 47% of these said they didn't have faith in the process but majority spoke to colleagues about the incident. Of those who reported it to ICC, 60% were unsatisfied, only 6% were completely satisfied with outcome
More than half of the respondents never attended a single session on awareness in their workplace; 38% said their media orgs did not do any preventive measures such as training, posters, or including sexual harassment as a misconduct in the service rules
“Lack of awareness or faith in ICC & dissatisfaction with outcomes is a telling comment that measures are yet to be seen as effective or women-friendly. The media industry while calling out sexual harassment in other spheres must look within & set its house in order”: @NWM_India
