1. Invest 3% of total health expenditure into health and medical research

This investment model will create a predictable and sustainable health and medical research ecosystem & support a workforce that is ready to address
immediate & emerging health challenges facing Australia

2. Commit to full capitalisation of the Medical Research Future Fund

The MRFF will ultimately support the translation & implementation of research discoveries & should form part of a holistic investment strategy for health and medical research

3. Protect the integrity of peer review for research funding

Decisions to award public research funds should only be made following a rigorous and transparent process of independent expert review of applications.

4. Support the office of the NHMRC

To maintain the rigorous grant assessment processes for which the NHMRC is renowned, the budget of the office of the NHMRC should be increased and adequate resourcing provided as needed

Committing to the 3% investment model has the potential to generate $58 billion in net economic benefits, create more than 60,000 jobs & most importantly, deliver life saving discoveries that will improve the health & lives of people in Australia and around the world
