Did you catch Steve Allen, our new state behavioral health director, & Margie Stanton, our Health Systems Division director, at @OregonFSN's Children's Mental Health Awareness Day at the Capitol? If you missed it, here are a few highlights! #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #EndStigma
Steve Allen, our new state behavioral health director addressed the crowd: "As parents, we all want the same things. We want our children to be safe, healthy & happy. But some families face more barriers than others & we need to do more to help them succeed." #MentalHealthMatters
"Parents, foster parents and grandparents – your unrelenting advocacy and fierce love for your children are your super powers. Young people – your determination and resilience are your superpowers." - Steve Allen, state behavioral health director
"At OHA, we believe that we cannot separate taking care of families from taking care of children. Our youth have the best chance of success if they’re supported at home, at school and in their communities." - Steve Allen, state behavioral health director
To address these issues, we've made proposals this legislative session that would:
* Provide supports inside the family home for kids w/complex needs.
* Continue our momentum on the youth suicide intervention & prevention plan.
* Provide more mental health services in schools.
And we will continue to build on the success of programs such as:
* Children’s System of Care and Wraparound.
* Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
* Crisis and Transition Services.
* Peer-delivered services for youth and families.
"We know that we’re able to achieve better health outcomes when we care for the whole person, which is why, in the next phase of the Oregon Health Plan, we will make greater concerted efforts to integrate our health care system." - Steve Allen, state behavioral health director
Steve Allen, state behavioral health director, closing out his time on stage: "It is time to fight stigma and celebrate each family’s unique path." #MentalHealthMatters #StigmaFree
