Once again, Alarm Phone was alerted to a boat in distress in the #Maltese #SAR zone. There are approx 100ppl who report that they are at sea for 3 days already! We informed RCC #Malta at 13.00 CEST.
The people on board report that they have run out of food and water, and that some are panicking. Some are very sick and need immediate medical attention. There are children on board as well as women, some of whom are pregnant. Immediate rescue needed! @Refugees
We know that several aerial assets of #EUNAVFORMED have been in the area already since yesterday but have not engaged in rescue yet! An asset from the Armed Forces of Malta is also in the vicinity. #safepassage
A rescue operation has been launched by #Malta for the approx 100ppl in distress. The Maltese authorities refuse to provide information and so we can only hope that the rescue will be successful and that the people will be brought to a place of safety.
We must learn from #SeaWatch that they observe the patrol boat deployed its tender and handed out life vests. Nevertheless, it seems they do not take people on board. It remains a maritime distress.
#Malta is responsible!
We now believe that #Malta has finally rescued the people from the boat in distress. Due to their uncooperative behaviour it is very difficult to establish when and which rescue procedures have been undertaken. We hope the approx 100ppl are doing well!
