Capping off our yearlong @CQuIPS #QI certificate course. Our course director Olivia Ostrow from @SickKidsNews looking back at the year that was and reminding everyone of the numerous opportunities that lie ahead
My favourite part of the morning is our keynote presentation featuring 3 past participants reflecting on their path after completing the @CQuIPS #QI certificate course #CQuIPS2019
First up is @NadiyaSunderji (2017-18 cohort) psychiatrist in chief at @WaypointCtr — a true leader in #QI and #mentalhealth
Key message was that despite many barriers and challenges that conspired to undermine success of her #QI project, she persevered, achieved her goals and felt her @CQuIPS training helped her when she applied (successfully) for Psych-in-chief role
Next we have Dr Genevieve Bouchard-Fortier (also 2017-18 cohort) assistant prof and gyne-oncologist at @UHN Princess Margaret who successfully standardized VTE prophylaxis for post surgical patients.
After completing the @CQuIPS course she successfully applied for a major grant to reduce surgical LOS (by increasing same-day gyne onc OR) using #QI methods to refine and implement intervention
Amazing to think how many new initiatives Dr Genevieve Bouchard-Fortier has led in just 12 months after graduating from the @CQuIPS course — decreasing post op CAUTI, reducing post op LOS, and minimizing post op opioid prescribing — WOW!
Our final speaker is @HinaRChaudhry from @stmikeshospital (2017-18 cohort) who is a force to be reckoned with in the world of increasing appropriate lab test utilization cc @sholzberg
Working organization wide at @stmikeshospital to reduce unnecessary lab testing — really nice illustration of broad stakeholder engagement and refinement of intervention for local context — key messages for our graduates cc @ChooseWiselyCA
She is now the Lab Research Program Manager for CELTIC Connect for @uoftmedicine Dept of LMP — a new role that clearly will leverage her expertise as a #QI leader
Advice for participants re: naysayers:
1) act like a child asking for candy-keep asking and eventually you will get what you want
2) get 80% on board and show improvement, the others will have no choice but to change
3) remember that as a #QI leader that you have credibility
