The number of people who reported their last place of residence as Uganda in Africa rose from 694 in 2001 to 151,363 in 2011. Male increase from 355 to 39,663 and female increase from 339 to 111,700 !
The female excess is across Indian states and most of these Ugandan immigrants/return migrants are in UP and Bihar where their stock rose from 5 in 2001 to 94,704 in 2011 !
Funnily enough, Census 2011 reports more than 77,000 of these Ugandan immigrants/return migrants to have been in India for more than 10 years even as the previous Census reported only 694 of them in total!
In Bihar, these Ugandan immigrants/return migrants are found across districts as well. This Ugandan episode is almost certainly a major Census data goof-up. If not, its the most important unreported sociological phenomenon of our times!
