"Terrorist" is an inherently racist, and specifically anti-Arab and anti-Muslim, construct invented for the targeting and criminalization of specific communities. #ElPasoShooting #WhiteNationalism

Trying to label #WhiteNationalism as a form of terrorism may feel like poetic justice, but it does more to reinforce that category than to undo it, which is what our goal needs to be #ElPasoShooting

Classifying these racist attacks as terrorism pushes us towards more anti-terror solutions to combating them--criminalization, surveillance, heightened security--all things that will ultimately target the communities we are trying to protect #ElPasoShooting #WhiteNationalism

Even #GunControlNow is often limited to background checks and banning certain weapons for "civilian" purchase, rather than holding weapons manufacturers accountable, and treating policing and militarization as their own forms of gun violence #ElPasoShooting #WhiteNationalism

We need alternative constructs to name the racism and violence that is #WhiteNationalism, and alternative solutions to combat it. #ElPasoShooting #WhiteNationalism
