Another deep look at #animation background design, this one from #WeBareBears.
A step-by-step thread:
Start with the storyboard.
I took the beginning and end panels of the pan and placed them the correct distance apart.
I could have tried to line up the missing middle imagery from the board but I was just saving time.
There was no perspective to figure out in a flat, organic shot like this so I went right into roughing out the fun dinosaur pirates.
I stuck with placement of objects from the storyboard.
I took creative freedoms to put my own spin on the dino pirate theme.
Oops. The art director thought I took too much creative freedom and wanted me to adhere more to the storyboard, but he liked some of my ideas.
Revision time!
A new rough.
All approved and time to clean it up in the show's loose line style.
My rough was pretty tight on this one so the final background design here didn't change much.
My work is done. On to the next!
Here's the final shot with color and characters.
It's not from an episode of We Bare Bears but from a short titled, 'Log Ride'.
Here's a link to the hilarious short.
I designed nearly all backgrounds in this one, definitely all the fun ride scenes.
