2/ I wrote about the Nobel Prize and where were all the women several years ago for HuffPost. I’m still looking for the women and POC Nobel laureates these days. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_36…

3/ And here are five women who should have been awarded a Nobel Prize. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_40…

4/ Let’s create a future when more kinds of people are in positions for the Nobel Prize in all fields.

Science teachers, I’m looking at you. Parents, I’m looking at you.

College & grad school admissions committees, I’m looking at you. And it’s about retention too!

5/ Science dept chairs and grad program directors, it’s on you to recognize implicit bias and how it accumulates right under your noses. It’s our responsibility as professors and administrators create equitable opportunities with an understanding of implicit bias.

6/ Let’s not allow the Nobel committee to keep shrugging its shoulders and claiming the pool wasn’t diverse. Let’s create an equitable pipeline in all Nobel fields. Let’s think expansively.

Let’s think about who gets left out from the get-go and along the way and why.

7/ Every PI should create a diverse research team that includes people who identify as women and people who identify as POC.

If your team lacks diversity, change what you’re doing so that you and other researchers have a diverse team for the next grant. Stop excusing yourself.

8/ Every professor and lead researcher should keep a log of all social and casual interactions with students and junior researchers as well as a log of formal mentoring interactions. Look for patterns. Build equity. It’s on you, not on them.

9/ Think of one thing you can do today to make the future pool of potential Nobel laureates more diverse. Do it today. Seriously, six white guys in two days get Nobel prizes—if you do nothing, you’re part of the problem.

What will you do to change the Nobel pool of the future?
