Nation-states emerge only after the printing press 1/6 #history #Geopolitique
Not a coincidence: you wanted your book to be printed and bought as many times as possible. 2/6
That meant using the most common dialects: French, Castilian, English, Florentine... 3/6
City-states that had similar dialects started adopting the majority one for which books were available. All of Tuscany starts speaking Florentine—and then Italy. All of Castilla speaks Castilian—and then Spain. All of England speaks English—and then the UK. 4/6
These city-states start sharing more ideas, trading more, interacting more... a common identity emerges, common values, brotherhood. 5/6
It was just a matter of time this would be reflected on the geopolitics. 6/6
The same thing is happening now. Internet will completely change the system we live in.
