In Washington D.C.:
All guns must be registered.
All owners must be licensed.
Background Checks are Mandatory.
Assault Weapons are banned.
Large Capacity Magazines are banned.
Mandatory 10-Day Waiting Period.
Dealers are strictly regulated.
1/
Only one handgun registration per 30 day period.
Weapons can only be re-sold to registered Dealers.
Fewer guns originally sold in D.C. were used in crimes in other states than any state-of-origin in the U.S. (per capita).
2/
More guns recovered in D.C. crimes came in from other states than were purchased in D.C.
Washington D.C. has the exact set of common-sense laws people are clamoring for nationally, and has had 33 firearm-related homicides in 2017... Which is less than half of the national average based on population.
4/
Theoretically, these rules (nationally) would cut gun-related homicides in half... more than half if you consider that some of those 33 homicides were committed with guns obtained more easily outside of D.C.
5/
Either that, or unwind the D.C. gun laws and arm everyone as an example of how "more good people with guns is the solution to bad people with guns" and we'll see how that works out.
