HERDSMEN KILLED MY COUSIN AND HER CHILDREN — @MailafiaObadiah
Listen:
There are eight bloody days in June.
The call for safety is intense, yet the marauders tighten their grips on their automatic weapons, invading communities, leaving sorrow behind.
The killers in the month of June 2019 were as rampaging as in the months before. Within an eight day period from June 16, they operated in communities, countering the defenses of the state.
They go berserk in communities in Shiroro LGA of Niger State killing about 70 people.
The displacement of persons is huge. Mostly affected are women and children. The Nigerian Police confirms the attacks saying only 12 persons were killed. Fingers point at brutal “Fulani” herdsmen.
Herdsmen are also reported to be responsible for the attack in Kagboro community
in Riyom LGA of Plateau State. Four persons died including a soldier. Suspected herdsmen invaded Ungwan Rimi community in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State killing children. The pattern is re-enacted in Janibanibu in Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
This time, Taraba women cannot hold it. In their numbers they hit the street in protest accusing the authorities of conspiring with militias to sack their communities, kill their husbands, children, brothers and sisters.
In this interview, Dr Obadiah Mailafia shares his pain in the face of the killings carried out by dangerous militias. Obadiah cries, because they killed his cousin and others, he fears for the future if the state is not repositioned for progress.
Obadiah Mailafia, a development economist, was the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria’s 2019 election. He is a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
