A good addition to the literature on #pilgrimage in #Islam and as Babak Rahimi did mention when I asked it’s a pity there’s nothing on pilgrimage to #Karbala 1/

Prior to this we had the excellent study of Sophia Rosa Arjana that is well worth putting on your reading lists oneworld-publications.com/pilgrimage-in-… 2/

Robert Bianchi’s book includes the #Hajj is also still useful global.oup.com/academic/produ… 3/

Much of the recent work is on the politics and modernisation of pilgrimage such as John Slight hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?is… 4/

@laleh_joon book with @stanfordpress continues the imperial theme sup.org/books/title/?i… 6/

And Eric Tagliocozzo on south east Asia with @OUPAcademic global.oup.com/academic/produ… 7/

And this volume on #Hajj edited by Shawkat Toorawa and Tagliocozzo with @CambridgeUP cambridge.org/core/books/haj… 8/

Still there’s not much of the liturgical, theological and experiential aspects of various pilgrimages (some texts were presented in Padwick’s old book on Muslim Devotions) 9/

And of course we have the various #Hajj accounts - two favourites are #Al_e_Ahmed and #Hammoudi 10/

I wonder if there are modern ziyarat narratives in English? Either to Sufi shrines or to #Karbala etc 11/
