So all this "we want night trains back!" stuff, and journalists falling over themselves when ÖBB ran one to Brussels...

I thought I would illustrate quite how hard a problem this is to solve.

And, yes, I have a way to illustrate hard stuff.

Welcome to #NightTrainDiagram !

This doesn't begin to cover all the complexity of how to get a night train to run, but it covers the main gist of it. And there are not probabilities on it, as there are loops in the diagram.

But seriously, this is what you would have to overcome to get more night trains on the tracks of Europe.

A nice photo opp, or some petition on Change(dot)org is not going to solve these inherent complexities for you. This needs hard work and maybe new law.

Ought to be of interest to politicians @AnnaDeparnay @karimadelli @lgewessler @fbrantner @MatthiasGastel and journalists @joncstone @joshposaner @GeorgiGotev @eszterz. Train nerds will of course add to the complexity of all of it.

High resolution PNG and PDF files of the diagram, and the draw(dot)io XML are available here:
